Federal Reserve Re-Appoints Chairman of Its Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Charisse R. Lillie, a partner with Philadelphia law firm Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, has been re-appointed chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's board of directors effective January 2002. Each Reserve Bank has a nine-member board of directors, which oversees Bank operations.

Lillie is a partner in Ballard Spahr's litigation department and a member of the labor and employment group. Her practice is concentrated in the defense of discrimination actions in federal court and state court and before administrative agencies and Employment Retirement Income Security Act, or ERISA, actions in federal court.

Positions Lillie held prior to joining Ballard Spahr include City Solicitor of the City of Philadelphia, General Counsel to the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia; Assistant U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; professor at Villanova Law School; Deputy Director, Community Legal Services Inc.; and trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C.

Lillie is a recipient of many honors, including the J. Austin Norris Award from the Barristers Association, Outstanding Alumna Award from Wesleyan University, the Elizabeth Dole Glass Ceiling Award from the American Red Cross, and the Whitney Young Award from the Urban League of Philadelphia.

Lillie is a graduate of Wesleyan University, Temple University School of Law, and Yale Law School.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia serves depository institutions in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware by supplying cash to these banks and thrifts, supervising them, collecting and processing about 5 million checks daily, wiring money and securities nationwide, as well as participating in the broader objective of setting monetary policy.
