Bank Launches Community Service Program

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia has launched a community service program, PhillyFedCares. Through this initiative, Bank staff will join volunteers from other organizations throughout the year to work on projects that aid in the welfare and education of children.

PhillyFedCares will launch on Monday, January 18, 2010, with a project at John Welsh Elementary School in Philadelphia during the Greater Philadelphia Cares' Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Bank staff, teachers, students, and parents will make improvements that include painting, doing repairs, and cleaning.

"We are proud that a group of our employees will be among the many volunteers doing community service during Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We also look forward to doing other community service projects through PhillyFedCares," said Thomas Lombardo, financial services industry relations officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia helps formulate and implement monetary policy, supervises banks and bank holding companies, and provides financial services to depository institutions and the federal government. It is one of the 12 regional Reserve Banks that, together with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the Federal Reserve System. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank serves eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware.
